Allergy Testing
Under most circumstances, we will provide allergy testing only when kittens are available and old enough for visitors. Before coming for your visit, please let us know the exact nature and severity of your allergic reactions.
The cost of allergy testing is a non-refundable $30 fee which is applied towards the purchase of your kitten. Allergy testing appointments are only scheduled on weekends.
What Happens During Testing?
We encourage our allergy testers to actively play with the cats, rub your face in their fur, whatever you are comfortable doing to see if a reaction occurs. If your normal reaction to cats is severe enough that it has prevented you from having a cat, we want to do everything we can to see what type of discomfort one of our Siberians will cause you. We do not bathe our cats or do any special allergen reducing cleaning in the house before allergy testing. My goal is to find excellent forever homes for my kittens and do not want you to need to find a new home for your kitten due to allergies. I want you to experience your symptoms in a true-life manner.
Know that while you are here that if you have reactions, they would be much less in your own home. When testing is open this spring, we will have 5 "whole" cats (anecdotally, cats who are not spayed/neutered cause more of a reaction), and 1 or 2 litters of kittens all in a small home.
I generally do not send packets of fur for testing. I do not feel this will accurately reflect how you would react to a live cat and do not recommend this as a test for those with severe allergies.
